Waiting

Waiting…

Isaiah 40:31 says But they that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.

Waiting on the Lord is not a passive position but one of actively trusting God’s goodness and provision. It’s a beautiful concept. It means trusting in God’s sovereignty and his perfect timing. It’s like waiting in the starting blocks for a big race; ready, poised to explode off the block, but also patiently waiting for His signal to start the new thing he is about to reveal. We don’t want to risk a false start, so we wait on the Lord.

My husband is of retirement age, and we are looking forward to what that might look like for us. We have hopes and dreams, of course, but the bigger question is what assignment does God have in this next phase of our lives? This portion of our vision is unclear, BUT to God, it is clear and focused. So we are waiting for His timing. We are training for the next assignment by reading and studying His Word. I don’t want to miss anything God has in store for me during this waiting season.

So, we are poised in the starting blocks, waiting for His perfect timing to explode into the next assignment. We are not passively waiting, we are taking in what God has for us here and now, with our eyes on the prize… Forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the things that are ahead, with this goal in mind, I strive toward the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
