There is a huge political divide in America today. It may be in the entire world, but that’s above my pay grade. It’s the divide in America that concerns me.
My son is a Gen-Z-er; he’s 25. He and I have deep conversations about the condition of life in our country. He lives his life online and has friends from various backgrounds and countries.
He has a friend whose father was caught up in the ICE situation. Yes, he was here legally. He spent months in detention before they would even look at his case. He was finally exonerated and released to return to his family. This deeply affected my son. He is now anti-ICE. Understandable. I’m not entirely pro-ICE in its present management either. But I digress…
There is a real divide in our country along political lines, and it’s not pretty. I’ve heard people ask: How can you be from that political party and be a Christian? This is an ugly and divisive question. Rather, we should ask: How do we see the same situation differently?
I believe that as Christians, we should examine the issues and vote according to the Bible. Believe me, the Bible is full of information on social issues and how we, as Christians, should behave. We are to take care of the widows, orphans, and the foreigners/immigrants. James 1:27. That being said, we don’t accept criminal behavior from anyone.
As followers of Jesus, we are going to be counter-culture, just as Jesus was. But, in my opinion, we shouldn’t be divisive about it. Healthy dialogue is encouraged; name-calling and accusations are not.
Please take time to examine the issues and the proposed solutions, and then vote with that information according to Biblical standards. We are to be salt and light in our world. The vote is a precious thing… we must guard it accordingly.
