Keychain Jesus

Keychain Jesus

The picture with this blog is a miniature Jesus on a keychain. When I saw this image, it gave me a reason to ponder the size of my Jesus. Have I limited him to the keychain version?

Jesus is God, and God, as we know, is the creator of the universe. Jesus was there during creation: Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, after our likeness, so they may rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move on the earth.” Genesis 1:26

What is my image of God? Is He the little keychain version, or the Creator of the universe version? I have to admit that in my big situations I pray that my Jesus is the big version, but I have come to realize that often he is the smaller version. I begin to panic, grow desperate, and try to handle the situation on my own.

The very name of Jesus carries power! In Acts 4:10, when the crippled man was healed at the name of Jesus, the disciples were questioned, they responded; let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, this man stands before you healthy. Then, in Philippians chapter 2, Paul teaches that Jesus traded heaven for a surrendered life on earth in a human body. In verse 10-11, Paul says this: so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow – in heaven and on earth and under the earth – and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

The Bible is clear that I have been given the God-sized Jesus, not a keychain version. So as I face some of the biggest challenges, I choose to stand firm in the God of the Universe and beyond. I surrender to His plan, and then I have a piece that passes all understanding. May we all embrace the God-sized Jesus in our everyday lives.
