Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Faithfulness

Psalm 145 is chock-full of the goodness and faithfulness of God. I encourage you to read it today; it’s not too long.

Verses 18-21 say The LORD is near all who cry out to him, all who cry out to him sincerely. He satisfies the desire of his loyal followers; he hears their cry for help and delivers them. The LORD protects those who love him, but he destroys all the wicked. My mouth will praise the LORD. Let all who live praise his holy name forever! Again, we are encouraged to praise the holy name of God forever.

When my mom passed away, I lost my In-Home-Supportive-Services job, leaving a $1500 gap in our monthly income. We laid out our needs before the Lord and declared our trust in His provision. By the time we needed the money, we had been gifted, out of the blue, $5,500. Not only what we needed, but more! We were also able to pay off one of our debts.

God is not a “just enough” God, although sometimes that is what He provides, as seen in the Israelites’ experience of being fed in the wilderness (Exodus 16:35). Repeatedly, we are told that God is a God of abundance (Psalm 65:11). We have certainly experienced this.

Now we are facing a new challenge. Is there anything our God cannot do? NO! We are excited and, admittedly, a little nervous (that’s human), but we are choosing to trust God. He is an abundant God. We are excited to see what He has for us in this next season of our lives.

From the hymn Great Is Thy Faithfulness, by Thomas O. Chisholm, there is a line that says, “Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow — Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside! Great is thy faithfulness, Morning by morning new mercies I see: All I have needed Thy hand hath provided — Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!”
