Facebook Love |
Like, Love, Care, Laugh, Wow, Sad, Angry. These are the “emotions” that you can “click” on to respond to a Facebook post. So many times I click on “Love” because I really like the post’s sentiment. But do I really LOVE it? Mark 12:30 says “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” (NET) So do I “love” a Facebook post this way? NO! Of course not. But the love button means I really like it and identify with it. We have watered down the word LOVE in our culture today. But what kind of Love is Jesus talking about? The kind that includes all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Do I love God this way? Do I love my husband or kids this way? This is the question Jesus is asking of me now. Do I “like” love him or LOVE him as he requires? I want the latter to be the truth, yet there must be room for more surrender or Jesus wouldn’t be asking me this question now. I fear that we have lost authenticity in our Facebook “love” world. Because “loving” a post on Facebook is so superficial, and surface-y. God wants my authentic, all-in, no holds barred, LOVE. Nothing less is acceptable because He is worthy of it all! Psalm 113:3 says “From the rising of the sun to its going down The Lord’s name is to be praised.” (NKJV)I challenge you to join me in a social media fast for 30 days, focusing on our “love” for Jesus, setting aside every social media distraction. Join me and dive deeper into our authentic love for Jesus and who He is in our lives. |
