A train can only move forward safely and securely if it stays on the track. So it is with our lives.

Jesus has a “track” for each of us. Our job is to stay on the track and not get ahead of “the Engineer”. This can get tricky when our hearts are involved.

The Holy Spirit leads us into all understanding. We are not to trust our own understanding apart from Him. (Pro 3:5)

But what happens when we do get derailed? A train wreck happens. It’s not just the lead engine that comes off the track, it’s the cars behind it too. What a mess this creates.

BUT GOD can get us back on track. How do we get off track? By trusting in our own strength and understanding. Sometimes we think what we are hearing is from the Holy Spirit, but the Bible says to “test the spirits”.

1 John 4:1 says Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but testthespiritsto see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Other spirits are at work in our world, they are false and from satan and his forces.

You may ask “How can a follower of Jesus get tricked into listening to an unholy spirit?” It most often happens in matters of deep importance and our hearts. We want something so badly in our flesh that we can be distracted by our enemy.

Every “word” from the Holy Spirit, must line up with the Word of God or it is false. It is that simple. God isn’t ever going to contradict Himself, otherwise it’s not God.

How do we guard ourselves from derailment? By grounding ourselves in the Word of God and cultivating a healthy relationship with Jesus. Reading the Word and praying for guidance every day. By putting on the Armor of God daily (Ephesians 6:10-20)

Suit up, get into the WORD of God, and pray every day.
