The greatest act of love ever demonstrated was Jesus giving up His life on the Cross for our redemption! No one has greater love than this – that one lays down his life for his friends. John 15:13. Jesus loved us while we were still sinners, unable to measure up to His standard. But through the forgiveness of our sins and our repentance, we have received the righteousness of God that covers all of our shortcomings.
Romans 3:23 puts it this way: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. ALL! No one is exempt; not the rich, not the homeless, not the hardworking family man or woman who is faithful to their spouse, not a teenager or young adult trying to figure out their lives, and not the GOOD person you know. We have All sinned and fallen short.
It’s hard to see our sin compared to our fellow fallen man, but when we put our lives up against the purity of God, it becomes easy to see where we fall short of His standard. No one else could have gone to the cross except Jesus. He was and is the only sinless, spotless sacrifice. He was the only one who lived our human life and never once fell short of God’s standard.
Now Jesus has become our high priest, the one who takes all of our requests and needs of forgiveness to God the Father. Jesus intercedes for us. For we do not have a high priest incapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way just as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15 I love that Jesus went through every situation I will ever face, yet did it without sin. That gives me hope!
Here’s the deal. Calvary is enough. (Calvary is the hill on which Jesus was crucified.) And His death is enough to cover all our sins, just as if we had never sinned. Not even once. His death and resurrection purchased our eternal freedom in Him. We have Heaven as our destination, and that’s a story worth sharing.
The greatest act of love ever demonstrated.
