Philippians chapter four speaks about how to have peace. Verses 4-9 read: Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say, rejoice! Let everyone see your gentleness. The Lord is near! Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things. And what you learned and received and heard and saw in me, do these things. And the God of peace will be with you.
There it is! The instructions for peace. The cure for anxiety, what truth is, justice, respect, purity, and love. Instruction as to what to think about. How to silence the incessant noise that surrounds us today with information overload. In every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God.
We are instructed to focus on whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy… When I need peace, I turn my attention to Jesus and these instructions. The peace that surpasses ALL understanding surrounds me, and I become calm.
