Jesus Loves You

The Cross

I was meditating on the crucifixion the other day. I marveled at the strength it must have taken for Jesus to go through with it. We are told that in the garden of Gethsemane, he sweated drops of blood. This only occurs when a person is in agony to the point of death.

Jesus knew exactly what he was about to go through on the cross. He was quite familiar with crucifixion; it was the preferred punishment of the Romans in his day. He knew what a gruesome death he was about to surrender to.

While on the cross, in the most agonizing pain, trying to hoist his body up just enough to gasp for a breath, he could have called down angels to rescue Him. The onlookers even mocked him about it. But. He. Didn’t.

Even more agonizing was the fact that God cannot look upon sin, so he would have to separate himself from Jesus as the sins of the world were placed upon him.

He went through with the entire process so we would never have to pay for our sins. So that we never know what it would be like to be separated from the Father. If the world knew the gravity of Jesus’ choice, I believe that more would turn to him.

“Savior, I come, quiet my soul, remember. Redemption’s hill, where your blood was spilled for my ransom. Everything I once held dear, I count it all as lost. Lead me to the cross where Your love poured out. Bring me to my knees, Lord, I lay me down. Rid me of myself, I belong to You. Lead me, lead me to the cross

You were as I, tempted and tried, human. The Word became flesh, bore my sin and death. Now you’re risen. Everything I once held dear, I count it all as lost. Lead me to the cross where Your love poured out. Bring me to my knees, Lord, I lay me down. Rid me of myself, I belong to You. Lead me, lead me to the cross.”
