In Romans 8:38, Paul says “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.”
So what can separate us? Nothing but our own free will. But can that separate us?
In the parable of the sower in Matthew 13, Jesus explains how the message of salvation falls on different soil. “The seed sown on rocky ground is the person who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy. But he has no root in himself and does not endure; when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away.” So clearly we can fall away when persecution comes.
Hebrews 6:4-6 says “For it is impossible in the case of those who have once been enlightened, tasted the heavenly gift, become partakers of the Holy Spirit, tasted the good word of God and the miracles of the coming age, and then have committed apostasy, to renew them again to repentance, since they are crucifying the Son of God for themselves all over again and holding him up to contempt.”
Who separates from who? We separate from God, BUT He never withdraws his love from us!
