Mandisa Hundley

I only knew Mandisa through her music and it was full of her triumphs and struggles. She wore her heart on the outside.

She struggled with weight, depression, and feelings of shame. Her lyrics are full of her heart. She didn’t shy away from tough and personal issues in her songs.

Mandisa did several interviews that revealed her heart for Jesus and her personal struggles. She was open and honest about them. She was positive about being victorious through Jesus and his work in her. She quoted scripture regarding her depression and feelings of inadequacy.

So what happened to her alone in her home on April 18, 2024? Why wasn’t she able to overcome one more time? What went through her mind and heart on that fateful day?

The truth is we will never know this side of heaven. Her father said she had been weak and struggling to recover from COVID-19, collapsed, and couldn’t get to her phone.

Mandisa’s personal struggles were very real and nothing to make light of. She was probably in clinical depression at times. Couldn’t there have been some medication that could have helped her?

These are real and important questions that we don’t have the answers to. Mandisa’s life was cut short too soon in my opinion. It appears she had a great support system of friends around her. She attended a good church, but something was wrong. She isolated herself in her darkest depression, very common in her situation.

Is Mandisa in heaven? I believe she is. If you are dealing with depression, please reach out for help. Don’t isolate yourself thinking you aren’t worth anyone’s time. You are precious; the world will not be the same without you!

The National Hotline for Mental Health Crisis and Suicide Prevention; https://www.nami.orgis a great resource for help with depression and counseling.

Please don’t struggle alone.

Very well said. I too have struggled with depression and weight issues and even when you lose the weight the mind plays games. Reaching out and talking it out really helps.
